Hello, fans and followers of It Is Written. We’re proud to announce (“hey, another announcement? Who da thunk it?”) an already popular new area on the site. It’s called “Writer’s Arcade” and you can check it out here.

In this area, members can play various games with one another, such as “Corrupt a Wish”, “Ban the Last Poster”, “Describe the Sig of the Poster Before you”, and many others. Feel free to play along, and even start a game topic of your own!

Today’s resource of the week, a new installment of the blog to be posted every Wednesday, is a great site called Writer’s Quest. It’s design is simple and sleek, easy on the eyes and not too confusing to new users. On the left toolbar is a comprehensive list of various links around the internet, each a useful tool for the aspiring writer. If you’re looking for dictionaries, encyclopedias, name ideas, publishing info, and more, this site is a must-have in your bookmarks.

Stacey Dennick, founder of the site, says she first thought of and created the site when she was working on her final thesis for her MFA and was scouring the web for useful resources. After seeing everything clogged in endless pages of description-less links, she decided to make her own user-friendly page to make sense of it all. And now, we’re fortunate enough to have her share her gathered research with us all!

You can read more about Stacey and her great site at her own personal page.

That’s it for this week, so be sure to check back for our installment next Wednesday, where we’ll be talking about enhancemywriting.com.

We’re proud to announce that we’ve added many cool, new features for your posts and topics. With these features, your stories, polls, reviews and more can now better reflect your individuality and add pizzazz to your messages. Here’s a basic walk-through of all these new additions:

[You]: this will fill-in your username.

[Marq]: this will cause your text to move across the screen.

[Hl]: this will highlight your selected text in the colour of your choice.

[Revt]: this will reverse the text of your choice so that it appears backwards.

[Spoiler]: this let’s you hide text behind a clickable button that, when pressed, will reveal it. Very useful when discussing the latest books and movies without spoiling the ending 😉

[Sup]: this will create superscript text of your choice.

[Sub]: this will create subscript text of your choice.

[Strike]: this will create a line running through your text.

So what are you waiting for? Go make some posts and test then out now!

Hello, It Is Written members and followers! We’re proud to announce that we’ve officially begun our logo contest. So if you’ve got a hand at Photoshop, an eye for good art, or just like doodling around, don’t hesitate to enter!

The grand prize winner will have his or her work used on both the blog and the forum, as well as any other site/adverts we use in the future. He or She will also become Writer of the Month, where their work (whether it be stories, photography, artwork, music, etc.) will be showcased to the entire site for everyone to see.

Here’s the rules:

1) You may hand-draw it, sketch it on the computer, use Photoshop, or create a collage of images.
2) None of the images or themes you submit may be trademarked or copyrighted material.
3) The image can be up to 750 pixels wide by 100 pixels high. These are just roundabout numbers, though, and your entry may be a bit smaller or a bit larger. Just try and keep it in the same range
4) It must incorporate our name (“It Is Written”) in its design.
5) It may not in any other way violate our rules (if you’d like to see a full list of our forum rules, see here)

Contest runs from June 14 to July 14.
